2011 Donation Sites


Socks for the Homeless has chosen to donate to the following Homeless Service organizations for the Winter of 2011:

Helping Our Own People, Inc. (HOOP) has a mission to provide basic life necessities for those living on the streets in order to help them survive another night. No questions asked, no strings attached… unconditional giving.  We approach the homeless with respect and dignity. We are continually humbled, knowing that we are so blessed…From the beginning, we in HOOP are not required to judge those we serve. We simply ask, “Are you hungry?” If someone accepts our offer, we pour a cup of soup and hand the person a sandwich and snacks…”

Meet Me Under the Bridge, Inc. is dedicated to aiding those less fortunate who live on the streets. We meet weekly to feed and clothe the homeless and to spread GOD's unconditional love. It's all about the love. Our goal is to let them know about the love of JESUS and that they matter to HIM.

The Children's Shelter program operates at the Gene Glick Family Support Center and serves children newborn to 17 years old.   Services are offered on a sliding fee scale.
The length of stay ranges from 1 to 5 days, as needed.  The Children's Shelter is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Who can use the Children’s shelter?
Children who...
  • Have run away
  • Are homeless
  • Are victims of or witness domestic violence
  • Whose parents are experiencing a housing crisis
  • Whose parents are experiencing a mental or physical crisis (i.e. detoxification)
  • Are at risk of abuse or neglect
Additional services include health education services for children, mentoring programs for parents, and referral resources for parents and children.
