Why are dry feet important?

Socks can help you keep your feet healthy by removing the moisture that bacteria need to grow in and that causes blisters in areas experiencing abrasion.  For the homeless, their feet are the hardest working part of the body. Homeless individuals are on their feet most of the day walking from one place to another.  Walking feet sweat a lot.

Moisture on the skin creates a host of problems.  In hot weather it causes blisters and fuels the growth of odor-causing bacteria, and fungal conditions of the skin and toe nails, such as athlete’s foot.

In cold weather, sweat pulls heat away from skin 23 times faster than air. In freezing temperatures moisture on the skin reduces the skin’s temperature so rapidly that wet feet quickly feel painfully cold and are much more susceptible to frostbite.

The inside of most shoes is like a greenhouse; hot & wet.  So where does all of this moisture go? Not surprisingly, it is trapped inside the shoe and largely absorbed by the sock.
